Day 3
By 8 AM, the Diamond Princess is entering Icy Strait on our way to Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve. We spot a whale some distance from the ship and later see a brown coastal bear on the beach. By 2 Pm, we are at Margerie Glacier. Although in our flying adventures around Alaska, we have seen more spectacular glaciers, it was amazing to visit this 3.3 million acre forest, inlet, and shore with 15,000 foot mountain peaks, and 12 tidewater glaciers in the bay.
We were able to view some grand displays of calving with thunderous cracks as the icebergs hit the sea. After a few hours of viewing including John Hopkins Glacier,
Bob heads to a computer class on Adobe PhotoShop and I head to the Lotus Spa to enjoy a massage, compliments of Jeremy and Lalanya. What a way to start my retirement! In the evening, we enjoyed a show, followed by a 50’s & 60’s Rock N’ Roll Party. Another full day and we are ready to hit the sack!(Click on photos to enlarge)
