Day 1
7: 30 AM came way too early and we were moving slowly. Lalanya surprised us with tickets on the Alaska Railroad. We had to be at the train depot at 9 AM to depart for Whittier. Bob had not been on the train before and he enjoyed the new experience. It was a sunny, clear day and Alaska was showing off her magnificent, beauty for the tourists.
Even the Beluga whales were putting on a show as we crawled along Turnigan Arm. It was a relaxing trip down to Whittier and we especially liked the idea that our luggage would be delivered directly to our stateroom. We arrived at the Diamond Princess at 12:30 PM and embarked for our journey to Vancouver. After finding our room, we hit the dining room for lunch. Fortunately, for us the food is not as good as the Carnival and that makes it easier to make low carb choices (except the ice cream). We toured the ship from one end to the other before too many other cruisers embarked. Our priority was to find the fitness center and spa, along with the hot tubs, and a walking track. Since we were on vacation and retired, we thought a nap was in order. Of course, it had nothing to do with the fact that we were out way past our bedtime the night before. Never mind…Bob just reminded me that we do not have a bedtime anymore! After dinner, we had our “kiss your ass good-bye if this boat ever goes down drill” and then it was on to watch the movie of the evening, The Titanic. Just kidding! At 9:30 PM, we left Whittier and headed into Prince William Sound to our first destination, College Fjord.
